Birdham Pool Marina review Boatshed style

Birdham Pool Marina review Boatshed style

Tuesday, 31 August 2010

I have to confess that when our destination for the weekend was first announced I wasn’t overly keen; the promise of lovely dog walks and a shopping trip to Chichester convinced me to give it a go and I’m happy to say I am now a complete convert to the delightful charm of Birdham Pool. I think my biggest reservations came from the almanac’s use of the term “rustic charm”. To me this brings to mind compost toilets and cold draughty wooden shower blocks but I have to say nothing could be further from the immaculate facilities on offer at Bridham Pool.

Dartmouth Regatta 2010

Dartmouth Regatta 2010

Monday, 23 August 2010

Dartmouth Regatta gets underway this week starting on Wednesday 25th August with another packed schedule of events on the water, ashore and in the air. The first ever Dartmouth Regatta was in 1822 when just three sailing races were held. To give the Regatta its true title, it’s actually ‘The Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta’ after Queen Victoria made an unscheduled stop in 1856 just as the Regatta started that year. After viewing the events and offering a prize of £20 for three rowing races the Queen bestowed the title of ‘Royal’ on the Regatta. Each year a letter is written for Royal Patronage, the current Royal Patron now being Prince Andrew, the Duke of York.
