The Mariner line is still fairly new to the west coast, so our rendezvous attracted curious passersby when the line up was observed at the La Conner Marina last weekend. Proud Mariner owners were generous in displaying their boats inside and out. And clever ideas and cruising tips were discussed over food and drinks. Our next Mariner Yachts rendezvous is already scheduled ‹ 7-9 October 2011.

This past weekend Oct 9th I was invited out for a sail on a Hunter 376 “Orion”. The season is winding down, yards are in full swing with haul – outs and winterizations. It ‘s hard to believe winter is around the corner with 80 degree temps we have had for the last few days, but it is coming fast. It was a fine day to be on the lake although the air was light, 5knts if that and seas relatively calm. Pictures of the shore line include the Milwaukee Art Museum a distinctively Santiago Calatrava design, tall ships at Discovery World and a view from up high of McKinley, Marina as I had my first opportunity to be hoisted up a mast to release a stuck halyard. It was a great photo op. Said to say we did remove the sails on Orion at the end of the day, getting her ready for winter storage.

Sometimes, I come to the conclusion you just get too many emails. Anyhow, whilst poring through Friday’s delivery of the odd two or three hundred emails in my inbox, I noticed one titled Rib Raid; nothing to do with technical redundancy on servers. When I opened it, I found it was an invitation to go and join the guys at Boatshed, Hamble for a brief soiree around the Solent.

My first boat was an beaten-up old marine ply kayak that my Dad bought for a fiver and my Grand Father, who was a cabinet maker, restored to full glory. She was a bit heavy for a kayak but provided you were going in a straight line she was great. Her varnished woodwork shone like a mirror and as I trolled up and down the Thames in the spring sunshine I new she was a classic. From that moment on I was hooked on boating.
The most common types of marine survey are the Insurance- and the Pre-Purchase Condition Survey.
