After all the training and all the organising the day of the race arrived rather too quickly. We met at St Katherine’s Dock at 06.00 to load the last remaining bits of kit and had a final briefing before rowing back towards Westminster Bridge for the start. The bridge was busy with friends and families and it was a great send off. The race stated at 09.00 and for the first 2 minutes we were in the lead! No doubt you can guess the rest!
Beat the Trawler Fest rush! This Dealer¹s Demonstrator Camano 41 is at our docks and ready for viewing now.

Have you had your rigging checked recently? Are you looking to buy a yacht? If so it’s very wise to consider a rigging check from a specialist rigging company. Maybe it’s just a case of not looking up, but somehow the mast and rigging seems to get forgotten by many owners or purchasers which can be an expensive and dangerous mistake.
Memorial Day is just around the corner it¹s a great time to buy a boat! Take a close look at this 1996 Bayliner 3255 Avanti moored at our docks. First you¹ll notice that it¹s clean, the interior is immaculate and the exterior has just been washed, buffed, and waxed. Second, notice the impressive equipment list West Marine RIB with Honda 5HP, Furuno Color Chartplotter/GPS/Fishfinder, Sunpad, extra large stainless steel BBQ mounted on the transom, and a nice cockpit canvas enclosure. Third, notice the thoughtful design of this 32¹ express cruiser. The cockpit has plenty of seating and snap-out carpet. She¹s a clean boat and is ready to cruise to the San Juans today!
Has your Yacht Broker seen the boat he is trying to sell you ?
Saturday 17th of April dawned on one of the most glorious days of the year so far. The 2010 JOG " Nab Tower Race" was due to start from the Gurnard buoy and the start line from the shore on the Isle of Wight.
There was a time when sailing yachts were hand made. But Mass-production, GRP and rising costs changed the boat building industry irreversibly. So, as the Boatshed Kent Yacht brokers it is always a lovely surprise to be asked to market a yacht that dates from these earlier times and it was a real treat to find an example that still retained its original charm. The boat in question is a Morgan Giles 43’ and this is a boat for sale with Boatshed Kent
Boatshed Seattle has listed a unique and fascinating vessel for sale - a 1984 Gulf Craft 56 Aluminium Trawler Boat constructed from 0.1875-0.25 inch marine-grade aluminum.
Without wishing to tempt fate it appears that summer may well be finally on its way. Not only are the fields starting to green up but the boat yards are rather buzzing with activity as everyone rushes to get out on the water. With my office conveniently located at the entrance to Baltic Wharf in Totnes I can quite easily conduct a poll of activity just be counting the number of cars going in and out. I can almost smell the anti-fouling from here…
Saturday 10th April dawned clear and still for the 2010 King & Queen Pursuit Race. With 25 local boats and crews entered across four different classes this race is always interesting, the monies raised by entry fees and the party later in the day back at the King & Queen pub with charity auction raising money for the Hamble Inshore Lifeboat.
I am taking some time away from the Medway area of Kent and have ventured on my annual pilgrimage to Avoriaz in the French Alps. I have a couple of budding young skiers who can’t get enough of the white stuff! This year, the end of season snow falls have been very good and there is plenty of snow. Easter skiing allows for the best of both worlds. At this time of year the seasons are changing and the weather systems fight for supremacy. So, on some days it can be very cold and ‘wintry’ and on other days the spring weather wins over and you can find yourselves skiing in ‘T-shirts’ and getting a good sun-tan. On reflection, the weather in the UK can be similar although our island climate means that things change far more quickly and perhaps it is less predictable. It always surprises me how accurate the mountain forecasts can be and I have often wondered ‘what is their secret’. I have written before about mountain folk, as I see a lot of similarities between people who venture out to sea and those that head out and up mountains. It must be something about challenging yourselves against the elements.
Once again Boatshed Grand Union is going to be in the thick of things at Cavalcade (Little Venice 1st -3rd May). We will have our stand on the South Tow Path with all our boats for sale on display. We will also have one wonderful wide beam for sale on display in the pool if she hasn't sold before then.

It was a great honour for me that Boatshed Grand Union was recognised for the best marketing in the the group at the Boatshed European Conference in Portugal recently. Great for me, but what does it mean for the customer.
